Description
This four-day workshop will introduce its participants to the interdisciplinary field of literature and science through an intensive immersion into the text of Stanisław Lem’s masterful science-fiction novel ‚Fiasco‘, a cautionary tale about attempted contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. Along with a short syllabus of secondary readings, the workshop will explore Stanisław Lem as science-fiction author, science fiction as a literary genre, Fiasco‘s modes of narrative construction, and Fiasco‘s presentations of physics, cybernetics, information theory, technology, medicine, biology, evolution, anthropology, mythology, sociology, game theory, and systems theory.
